It is important that all people involved in the care of patients in a health-care facility take all the necessary steps and precautions to avoid spreading germs that can cause infections. It is essential that the policies put in place to control these problems are followed by every member of the collaborative team. According to the QSEN Competencies every person involved in the care of a patient should â€Å"Function competently within own scope of practice as a member of the health care team†. There are two ways that one could acquire a MRSA infection. Community-associated MRSA infections can occur in healthy people living in the community who have not recently been in the hospital. MRSA is spread through direct contact with the infected person or items used by that person. People in close proximity or who share personal items or athletic equipment are at an increased risk of acquiring a MRSA infection. Another way that MRSA can be spread which is much more prevalent is through a hospital. Healthcare-associated MRSA infections occur in people who have recently been admitted to the hospital or other health-care facility. People who have been hospitalized or had surgery at an increased risk of contracting a MRSA infection. According to Fairclough (2006), â€Å"MRSA accounts for one-fifth of hospital acquired infections†(p. 73 ). The incidence of contracting a MRSA infection can be fairly minor to very serious. The prognosis of a patient who acquires a MRSA infection depends solely on the severity of the infection and the person’s overall health. Reducing risk of MRSA transmission can be extremely effective if all members of the collaborative team follow all necessary measures to eradicate MRSA. Attempts to control the spread of MRSA rely on several factors: detecting and isolating infected or colonized patients, rational antibiotic prescribing, hand hygiene and cleanliness. † (Fairclough, 2006) â€Å"Infection control is at the heart of quality clinical care. This has become controversial as it is costly to test all patients for possible MRSA infections but it is necessary if the goal is to eliminate transmission of MRSA from patient to patient. â€Å"Nosacomial transmission of MRSA is so widespread that screening programmes have been implemented to control the spread of MRSA in the hospital environment. † (Banning, 2005, p. 548) If healthcare facilities are able to properly identify the patients whom are infected with MRSA then they will be able to successfully carry out policies to protect others, especially those who are at high risk for infection. Once the patients with MRSA have been identified then the precautions protocols can be determined. According to Bissett (2005) the most effective type of precaution for MRSA patients is isolation of the source. (p. 389) Patients should be placed in single rooms and have certain medical equipment dedicated to them. Healthcare workers should use contact precautions and person protective equipment. All persons entering the room of a patient with MRSA should be wearing gloves and a gown. It is important that are healthcare workers understand and are in compliance with infection control measures. Bissett (2005) stated the following: Although MRSA can be transferred by patient to patient contact and air-borne transmission, it usually occurs via the hands of healthcare workers. It should not be forgotten that the need for environmental cleanliness. compliance with standard infection control precautions, including risk assessment of tasks to ensure the appropriate use of gloves and efficient hand hygiene, are of equal importance as isolation and cohort nursing. The final and arguably most important step healthcare professionals need to take to reduce the risk of MRSA transmission is proper hand hygiene. Hand washing should be done before and after coming in contact with all patients. An antimicrobial hand wash should be used when coming in contact with a patient with MRSA. Proper hand hygiene is the most effective way to reduce the risk of transmission of any type of infection to patients or the healthcare workers themselves. Although the main goal is to keep patients safe and free of hospital acquired infections, the hospital can also be held accountable for improper infection control. Reimbursement for treating nonsurgical hospital-acquired infections is being eliminated because it is believed that the use of evidence-based practice can reduce these infections. Hospitals are also required to report any incidences of hospital-acquired infections. â€Å"At present if a patient contracts MRSA, the hospital has a mandatory requirement to notify the HPA (by recording it on a website) and the incident will be recorded on the statistics. The idea, of course, is for the statistics to reflect any increase or decrease in the incidence of these superbugs. The HPA figures have been referred to extensively in the press, sometimes with rejoicing in the decrease in MRSA. † (Rawson, 2008, p. 72)If the infection control protocols at the facility are followed properly, the risk of transmitting MRSA from patient to patient can be drastically reduced. â€Å"The decrease in MRSA does, however, suggest that obliging hospitals to report cases of MRSA to the HPA plays a role in reducing the incidence. † (Rawson, 2008, p. 73) As for continued research on MRSA prevention, it is important to focus on effectiveness of interventions already in place and readjustment as necessary. Using gowns and gloves for all MRSA contact precaution rooms may be the protocol, but protocols are not always followed. More research needs to be conducted on the compliance of these standard precautions. Decreasing the risk of infection transmission is only effective if all members of the healthcare system collaborate and follow the protocol together. Infection control and patient safety are primary goals for each patient in a healthcare facility. King Lear - Good vs. Evil In the King Lear play, Shakespeare creates many conditions in which humans live in the world. The main characters in the play are used to portray Shakespeare's ideas. One of these ideas which Shakespeare is trying to portray is evil between the characters and in the world which are emphasized throughout the play. The evil, created by humans, is outweighed by good in the world of King Lear. Evil was created by humans who decided to do wrong to others. Duke of Albany, said that all evil people will be justly punished (ACT V, iii, 303). Albany indicated that it is the people who caused evil and people decided to do evil, not gods. Lear believes that since Edgar is out on the heath he must have given everything to his daughters as well (ACT III, iv, 62ff). Since he believes that Edgar gave everything to evil Lear must believe that people are the cause of evil. It were Lear's daughters who decided to do wrong to Lear and it was Lear's fault in giving away all of his land. Si ughters are the humans in the play, it is the humans who caused the evil and Lear believes that humans were the ones who created evil. Edgar, is another character in the play who believes that evil is caused by humans and not the gods. Edgar said, "The gods are just, and of our peasant vices make instruments to plague us" (ACT V, iii, 169). Edgar clearly says that the gods are right and it is the people who are responsible for promoting evil in the world. It is us who make the instruments necessary for evil to spread and plague the world. In the world of King Lear many characters believe evil was caused by the people and not by the gods. Even though evil was created by humans good will always exist. After King Lear was captured he showed that even if evil exists, good will always be present. Lear speaks about love with Cordelia in the prison cell and how they will still have each other despite of the evil around them (ACT V, iii, 8). On another occasion Lear also says that despite all the evil in the world the raw nature, which is good, is still unharmed (ACT IV, iv, 90-92). Lear discovers nature's beauty by playing with the mice and listening to the signing birds. While all the evil is at its peak and everything seems to be lost, the raw nature in the play is unharmed. The good exists even while the evil dominates the world. Good will not only exist if evil dominates, good will also outweigh evil eventually. The war which was lost by Cordelia and Lear, the good side, showed evil win (ACT V, ii). However, good over powered it after the war by Duke of Albany. The good in the play first was diminished to almost nothing but in the end more good was able to defeat evil in the play. When the two sisters began fighting between each other evil began fighting against evil (ACT V, i and iii). Eventually, because of that fighting between evil, good was able to over power evil. When the evil seemed strong and good almost non-existent, evil managed to fight itself and give good a chance to get stronger. At the end of the play evil was completely defeated and good once again dominated the world in the play. Although evil will always be present and people will be the reason why it exists, good will always outweigh evil. Through the characters, Shakespeare is able to portray how evil and man compose in the world. The evil will always exist but good will always win and dominate in the world of King Lear.

Inspector Goole’s role in the play Essay

The Inspector is a critical part of J. B. Priestly â€Å"An Inspector Calls†. He is a catalyst in a concoction of Edwardian lies and deceit. The Inspector’s role in the play is to make the other characters realise how people are responsible for how they affect the lives of others. Priestly thought that if we are more aware of responsibility, the world should learn from their mistakes and develop into a place where every can be treated fairly. The Inspector states that everyone is, â€Å"†¦ intertwined with our lives†¦ † (p. 56). It is interesting that the Inspector enters after Birling has just finished his speech on society and how he says, â€Å"†¦you’d think everybody has to look after everybody else† (p. 10). The Inspector is the antithesis of Mr. Birling’s Victorian and capitalist view on society: every man for himself. Clearly, throughout the play, the Inspector has talked about the community, togetherness and sharing. The Inspector expresses an individual view of society. From the dialogue, it is evident that the Inspector has a socialist view. A socialist is a person who believes in a political and economic theory or system where the community, usually through the state, owns the means of production, distribution and exchange. An example of a socialist view from the Inspector is, â€Å"†¦ we are members of one body. We are responsible for each other† (p. 56). Priestly uses the Inspector as a soapbox on which he can express his own socialist views. As a result, when these socialist ideas compete with capitalist views, the audience become more conscious about the flaws of society and themselves. For example, through the Inspector’s comments on the way that factory owners exploited the desperation of others, the Inspector challenges the industrialist by saying that â€Å"†¦ after all its better to ask for the earth than to take it† (p.15), Priestly now begins to put across his message about social injustice. Consequently, with his opinions and morals, the Inspector undermines Birling. As when Birling states his capitalist opinion, the audience recognises early in the play that they are very wrong and immoral, â€Å"you’d think†¦ we were all mixed up together like bees in a hive – community and all that nonsense† (p. 10). In addition, when the Inspector leaves and the Birlings find out that he may be a hoax, Birling says that the Inspector was â€Å"probably a Socialist or some sort of crank – he talked like one† (p. 60). This all strengthens Priestly’s political and moral point.

Health Bad health can have a negative impact on a person’s learning. If a person is unwell they are unable to attend school, college or courses. For example, if a person has the flu, they could be unwell for two weeks. In those two weeks they could miss a substantial amount of learning time, leaving them behind with work & unable to move on with their learning at the same pace as their peers. Employment If a person is employed it can have a negative effect on their learning as well as a positive effect. For example; If a 6th form student is studying 4 A-levels and has a part-time job, they will barely have any free time. Resulting in them getting behind with work, not meeting deadlines. This can result in an extreme amount of stress. This is a negative effect on learning. Employment can also have a positive effect on learning, for example, if a person has a job they are going to be learning new skills in the work place. For example; If a student is a young career, and they have to look after a parent, they may be missing a lot of time off school or college to do so, meaning they will be missing out on a lot of work. Also when they are attending school or college they may be worrying about what is happening at home why they aren’t there and if the person they are looking after is ok, this can mean they aren’t concentrating on the work they are supposed to be doing so they could be missing vital pieces of information. Access to a study centre Having or not having access to a study centre can affect a person’s learning. If a person has access to a study centre they will be able to learn more effectively, and complete work, revise and meet deadlines. Meaning they will be have a good learning experience. Although if a person is unable to access a study centre because of circumstances such as low income, they will be unable to learn effectively, complete work, revise or meet deadlines etc†¦ This means that they will fall behind with work and may not be able to achieve the things they would like to. Time Time can be a very huge factor that can influence a person’s learning. For example; if a person doesn’t have much free time they wouldn’t be able to achieve as much as they could if they had enough time to complete work, study and revise. Not having enough time can have a huge negative effect on a person’s learning. Also if a person has a lot of time to study etc†¦ they stand a better chance of achieving greater things, such as a person having a lot of time to revise for their A-level exams stand a better chance of progressing onto university because they are more than likely to achieve better grades than someone who struggles to find time. Specific learning needs If a person has specific learning needs such as dyslexia, and they are unable to access the resources they need such as extra support and coloured overlays, they will find it difficult to learn and may have an un-enjoyable learning experience. This will result in a negative learning experience. Funding for study Funding for study can have huge implications on a person’s learning experience. For example, if a student that is planning to go to university is unable to obtain the funding needed for the course they wish to do, they may be unable to do the course they require for their dream job. Resulting in a negative learning experience. Although if a person is able to get funding for a course at university, they will be able to study the degree they want and will be able to go onto do the job they may have always wanted. However receiving funding could in the long run have a negative effect, because the student maybe worrying about having to pay the grant back. Aspirations Having aspirations can have a positive effect on a person’s learning. This is because they may study harder in hope of achieving their aspirations. For example, a person who wishes to become a doctor later on will concentrate a lot harder than someone who doesn’t know what they want to do later in life,  because the person who aspires to be a doctor will know how hard they have to work to achieve the things needed to pursue such career. Learning styles Learning styles have an impact on a person’s learning experience. For example; If a person is a someone that learns by doing practical tasks and getting hands on, is stuck in a lecture just being dictated they aren’t going to have an enjoyable learning experience and are just going to switch off and not take in any information they are being told because they are bored, resulting in a negative learning experience. Motivation Motivation has an impact on learning experiences. For example; If a student has no motivation to do well, they will more than likely not bother doing any revision or pay attention in class, resulting in bad grades and the inability to move on to higher education or a job because they have been unable to achieve the necessary requirements to do so, resulting in a negative learning experience.
